THE SURROUNDINGS

RESTAURANTS

The house is located in a quiet, residential area, with houses and villas, a church and a cafe. You can find a small playgarden and, around the village, a few fields with small farm animals (donkey, sheep, chickens, goats, etc.) that kids will love. You can park your car in front of the house or on the drive. There is little traffic, as the street is a dead-end street (only goes to the next village with 10 houses).

The nearest beach is Foz do Lizandro (6 km): one of the nicest beaches with convenient facilities - surfschool and rentals included - in the surroundings of Lisbon. We have dedicated a page about this beach and other beautiful beaches nearby.

Horse riding is possible (at only 1,4 km), swimming pool and tennis courts are close by (3 km: indoor and outdoor pool), as is an adventure park (7 km). Several outstanding golf courses are within a 30 min drive. Several supermarkets can be found in Mafra (2 km) and are open every day until 9 pm. The hipermercado (2,5 km) is even open until 11 pm.

Ericeira (7 km) - World Surf Reserve since 2011 - is an authentic fisherman village and beach town with a very nice vibe, also known for the quality of its delicious seafood and fish.  Mafra (2 km) is known for its sumptuous palace, monastery and basilica, for its beautiful palace gardens (entrance free) and for its delicious pastry shops. The tapada de Mafra is the wild park that belonged to the palace and you can visit (expect to see boar and deer). The entrance is 13 km from the house.

Lisbon is an obvious daytrip (or 2) and a very pleasant city to visit. Sintra and its Unesco heritage "cultural landscape" are 20 km away and the medieval walled town of Óbidos and the monastries of Alcobaça and Batalha, both Unesco world heritage, are also easy to reach and form interesting daytrips

A little further away (1 hour and a half drive), you have Tomar and its Convent of Christ, a Unesco monument, and Évora, a town in the Alentejo, which town centre is also on the Unesco list. The list goes on, and we did not include nature parks, but these are the main cultural attractions that are all well worth your attention.
